In all his glory, with ceremonial headdress,
feathers, jaguar pelts and sacrificial head symbols, Au Cacau is represented
as 26th ruler of Tikal. His remains were discovered in Pyramid/Temple
1.
This
famous stela is currently located at twin pyramid group 5D-1 in Tikal,
Guatemala, and is dated in the late classic period 711 A.D.
(9.14.0.0.0). The deity/king carved on the face of stela 16 is that of
Ah Cacau, supreme ruler #26 of Tikal, whose remains were found buried
in a tomb deep within the pyramid Temple I east of the Great
Plaza.
Ah
Cacau is regally portrayed with quetzal plumed headdress and cape as
he holds in horizontal position, the royal scepter. The anterior
portion of the headdress is that of the jaguar. His pectoral has a
bird motif and his waistband is adorned with a face and trophy heads
as are his ankle bracelets. Adjacent glyphs place him as supreme ruler
of Tikal (the tied bundle city/state glyph).
Place
this stela amid palm foliage or within the setting of a rock water
fall…or perhaps just standing majestically in the corner of a room
with upward directed subdued floor lights.
