This wonderfully fearsome mask is an
anthropomorphic expression of a jaguar-man
wearing the outer leaves of
corn (the food staple of the Maya) as a cap on his head.
If you look closely you will see not only his
jaguar fangs but the distinctive jaguar tufts over the eyes made to
look like eyebrows.
