The famous laughing horned owl is part of the ornamentation worn on the breast of the personage portrayed on the stela.
Judging from the bow-tie, this must be a very high class owl. Such an exquisite sculptural detail demonstrates the
affection and care with which the Maya portrayed the birds and animals of their environment.
