Stelae are monumental stones carved by the Mayan Indians in the jungles of Central America between 300 B.C. and 900 A.D. Because these priceless treasures were being looted by art robbers and are crumbling from hundreds of years of jungle weather, Joan Patten, the American artist and sculptor, set out to preserve these outstanding stelae. Over twenty years ago she made many arduous trips into the jungle, she and her crew made exact latex molds of existing stelae which were later cast into concrete or, fiberglass for permanent preservation. Upon her return to the United States, she sought the expertise of Manuel Palos Sculpture to restore and cast these timeless pieces. These castings are now available exclusively at Manuel Palos Sculpture. The sculpture collection is suitable for the garden or can be included in your interior design motifs. These sculptures can be incorporated into walls, over fireplaces and doorways.
